ANGLOGOLD ASHANTI (IDUAPRIEM) LIMITED (A subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti Limited) operate the combine Teberebie and Iduapriem open-pits gold mines at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana and has a work force of over 1400, including contractors.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

The GIS Specialist will play a key role in managing, analyzing, and applying spatial data to support land access, compensation, resettlement planning, community feedback, and livelihood restoration activities for the Teberebie Project. This role helps ensure that:
Land access and compensation processes are accurate, transparent, and defensible
Spatial data supports regulatory compliance, IFC safeguard requirements, and community trust
Management decisions are informed by reliable, integrated spatial intelligence
Support to the complaints and grievance processes of the project

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Develop, manage, and maintain centralized spatial databases using ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or equivalent platforms.
Produce high-quality thematic maps including:
Mining footprint and exclusion zones
Property/farm boundaries and boundary control points
Affected assets and households
Resettlement sites and livelihood restoration areas
Compensation and entitlement maps (ownership, land use, impact type, compensation status)
Ensure precision and consistency across survey, cadastral, drone, GPS/GNSS, and field datasets
Manage coordinate systems, projections, datum transformations, and georeferencing standards
Digitize, validate, and update property boundaries and affected parcels within mining lease areas
Link spatial datasets with asset inventories, census, and socioeconomic databases
Apply working knowledge of customary and statutory land tenure systems in Ghana
Integrate GIS outputs with project information systems (e.g., CIMS, Borealis, SharePoint)
Maintain metadata documentation, enforce data standards, implement version control, backups, secure data protocols, and audit trails
Facilitate cross-functional data sharing across engineering, project controls, social, and environmental teams
Integrate census and household data for population and vulnerability analysis
Support resettlement site planning (layout options, infrastructure corridors, service access)
Monitor compensation payments, relocation progress, livelihood restoration, and project footprint change detection
Develop tracking systems to ensure building design compliance and flag deviations
Perform advanced spatial analysis (overlays, buffering, suitability assessments) to support land acquisition, resettlement site selection, and access route optimization
Apply remote sensing techniques for environmental and impact monitoring
Develop visual dashboards and map-based KPIs for management reporting
Coordinate with licensed surveyors, community affairs teams, regulators, and traditional authorities to validate data
Facilitate participatory mapping with affected communities
Translate complex spatial outputs into clear visuals for non-technical stakeholders

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, Remote Sensing, or a related field
ESRI Certification or a specialization in Remote Sensing is an added advantage
A postgraduate qualification in GIS, Land Administration, Environmental Management, or a related discipline is an added advantage

Experience

A minimum of 5–7 years’ professional GIS experience, including demonstrated support to mining or large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in land access, compensation, and resettlement activities
Proven ability to integrate spatial and social datasets
Experience supporting RAPs, LRPs, or livelihood restoration programs
Experience engaging with traditional authorities and regulatory bodies

Knowledge & Skills

Proficiency in:
ArcGIS Pro
QGIS
Global Mapper
GPS/GNSS data processing
Strong spatial analysis and cartographic skills
Experience working with drone imagery and remote sensing datasets
Data management, validation, and QA/QC capabilities
Advanced Information Management application skills
Ability to clearly explain GIS outputs to non technical audiences
Strong report writing and visual communication skills
Confidence engaging with communities, regulators, and management
